We had a great feast in our Hops’ Yard where we harvest more than 150 kilograms of this fruit

About 200 visitors attended a new Hop Harvest carried out every year in a specially prepared yard. Here we managed to collect more than 150 kilograms of “green gold”, essential ingredient of our specialties to use in our new experimental beer: Fresh Hop.

This entertaining event was led by our founder, Armin Kunstmann, who gave the go of this traditional feast with his family, third generation included, the event gathered local brewers, collaborators, beer lovers and institutions of our beloved Valdivia like Firefighters and Municipality that participated jointly to collect the largest amount of hops.

This is the fourth version carried out positioning a real beer experience. In this occasion, Armin Kunstmann said “the harvest will allow to give life to experimental specialty called “Fresh Hop”, a beer to be elaborated with “Wet Hooping” technique, which consists of adding fresh hops in cooking to have new flavors and aromas. It will be available in all Kunstmann stores throughout the country. “

Kunstmann Hop yard was inaugurated in 2015 to make known characteristics of this special flower. It’s a one thousand two hundred square meters yard, where about 500 plants of three different ecotypes of hops introduced in Valdivia by German colonists over a hundred years ago are cultivated: Ranco, La Union and Anwandter, this last variety is considerably different because it is a more green and very aromatic stem donated by Federico Dünner, who found it in the old house grounds of German immigrant Carlos Anwandter.
